The Event That Took Place

The Turkish flagged cargo ship named 1175 DWT Nazim Bayraktar sank at a depth of 13 m by losing its balance while loading 1100 tons of wheat at Haydarpaşa Port. The fuel, oil and other pollutants found on the ship while it was sinking posed a great risk to the environment. After the underwater survey conducted by our diving team to determine the condition of the ship, the Debris Removal Contract was signed with the P&I Club on the condition of “Wreckfixed 99”, “No Cure, No Pay”.

All operations were carried out under the control of P&I Club and Marine Consultants. Unloading of the ship's cargo, fuel and mineral oils in the tanks, collecting wheat spread on the seabed and buoyancy operations of the ship have been carried out carefully by taking precautions against the risk of marine pollution.
-The ship is surrounded by oil barriers in case of leakage of fuel, oil or other pollutants. In addition, skimmer and oil-absorbing materials have been kept ready just in case during the operation.
-In order to determine the openings that need to be closed on the ship and to create a list of necessary materials, an underwater survey was carried out by our diving team and sealing was provided in all regions.
-The fuel, oil and wheat cargo on the ship, which pose a risk in terms of environmental pollution, have been removed.
- On March 12, the ship was floated after the operations and towed to Tuzla Shipyard on March 16 and delivered to the P&I Club on March 19.
- As of March 18, wheat spread on the sea bed at the accident site, mixed with mud, was collected by airlift and delivered to the Salt Cleaning Works Directorate for disposal on March 19.
